This Gallery Page is my long and ambitious pursuit to find, and catalogue as many as possible (so far I have 13) if not all of a photographic reproduction of the works by Viktor Hartmann, displayed at the posthumous exhibition that took place in 1874. This exhibition of about 400 works, led M. Mussorgsky to create the piano suite “Pictures at an Exhibition”. Philippe Halsman

The Latvian born American portrait photographer Philippe Halsman (1906-1979) worked mostly for “Life” and became closely identified with the look of the magazine. Between 1942 and his death, he took 101 Life cover pictures, including iconic images of Marilyn Monroe, Groucho Marx and Frank Sinatra. [Read More]
