Gallery: Hartmann

This is the first post in this category marking the end of my old gallery management platform (http://gallery.menalto.com/) I hope that the interesting comments and discussions which started in 2006 in my collection of Hartmann’s pictures are going to continue, this time without any irritating spam that may detract from your pleasure of viewing and commenting.

Due to the lack of a better way of transferring the comments from my old site, I have decided to use the good old way of cut ‘an’ paste to give you the gist of it here

Thanks for publishing these fascinating images.
I am playing the tenor tuba solo in a performance of ‘Pictures’ next weekend, and need inspiration.

The Bydlo is always described as a Polish peasant wagon, drawn by oxen, and with huge wheel. I do not see it here.

Well spotted. Yes no wagon, but the execution of Polish peasants. Mussorgsky has turned this into more of a social commentary of how Russians treated Poles. In 1874 Czarist Russia this was a dangerous notion to express.

Thank you so much for showing these fabulous works of art. Playing the “Pictures” is one thing, actually seeing them and then contemplating them is another…

Thank you for sharing!
I have read on the Internet that most of the original paintings are lost (either destroyed by neglect or still to be found). How did you manage to found this ones?

I am curious to know where these drawings and paintings are. I understand they are spread out widely. Can you clarify for me. Many thanks!

Got something to say?
