Philippe Halsman

The Latvian born American portrait photographer Philippe Halsman (1906-1979) worked mostly for “Life” and became closely identified with the look of the magazine. Between 1942 and his death, he took 101 Life cover pictures, including iconic images of Marilyn Monroe, Groucho Marx and Frank Sinatra.

    What fantastic shots! What a life it must have been to meet & photograph such a range of people! Love the Kennedy photo…and the Marilyn (oh to be able to pull off wearing a dress like that!). The Dali photo is bizarre, but captures him perfectly as does the Einstein shot. Then there’s Audrey. Even in a “normal” setting she’s beautiful.
