Very excited about the Hindemith =D The repertoire looks great for the next concert, good variety! Can’t wait to start playing it all on saturday

  2. Sergei Korschmin on April 17th, 2009 9:37 am

Thank you for your question Brendan. I wanted to write about it here, so everyone knows the process, but keep forgetting to do it.

No audition is needed; QYO2 members can express their interests here and I’ll see what is and isn’t possible. Secondly please note that any soloists and/or repertoire suggestions would have to be approved by QYO’s Artistic Director!

  3. Brendan Toohey on April 16th, 2009 9:33 pm

I really really really hope Der Freischutz gets approved, such awesome music and a massive clarinet solo for me :D

I’m interested in how principle players get picked to do concertos. Any clarinet concertos lined up or can we audition for a solo piece?

    Toohey.

  5. Rosemary Antonini on April 1st, 2009 7:01 pm

    Hi,
It looks like so much good repertoire, so much fun! Can’t wait to hear it at the concert!
    Rosemary

No Shostakovich!! *sob* But, that was my only chance to play in QYO2 this year, and it’s a really cool piece! I’m devastated!
On the brighter side; K447, Alex solo! :D

  7. Latham on March 29th, 2009 1:39 pm

Shosta 7 got cut… I may just cry

  8. Latham on February 27th, 2009 2:07 pm

For the work by an Australian composer, we should do one of Miriam Hyde’s orchestral works. Or perhaps selections from John Anthill’s ‘Carroboree’!

  9. Rollin on February 13th, 2009 6:39 pm

Haha, we should SOOOO play the Danzon No.2 by Arturo Marquez!! At least just for that last informal concert, it isn’t that tricky at all!

  10. Iona on February 2nd, 2009 6:22 pm

    Wow!
Some great repertoire lined up for this year.
    I’m so jealous!
I can’t wait to hear the concerts.
I’d love to hear QYO2 playing the Berlioz. That would be fantastic.

Also… if you ever need another violinist for anything, let me know. I’d be happy to augment. :)

For repertoire how about the flute concerto written for Alexa Still by Anthony Ritchie? UQ orchestra performed it with an honours student playing the solo in I think 2005.

  12. Brendan Toohey on January 12th, 2009 1:06 pm

we should do the whole nutcracker ballet :p
with dancers and everything haha …
    no but seriously …
    i want dancers :p

  13. Alex on January 7th, 2009 6:48 pm

Some of this repertoire looks great!
Can’t wait to start the year with Tchaikovsky Symphony 5, it should be very exciting.
I hope that Shostakovich 7 gets aproved for concert 3; that would be a great piece for QYO2 to do this year (and it’s one of my favourites).
I look forward to another great year of QYO2 in 2009!

  14. Latham on December 27th, 2008 6:33 pm

Oh no, West Side got cut??? a thousand years mourning…
Epic win if Berlioz is included… lets do it!!

  15. Rollin on December 24th, 2008 9:29 pm

Wow, this looks really exciting. We get to start the year of with two of my favs XD! It’s a bit disappointing that West Side Story didn’t make it through. I wouldn’t be much help in suggesting, there’s really too much stuff to dream about. Ummm…that Mahler 1 we did in 2006 was absolutely stunning and …just, wow, seeing that 3’s gone, what about 9? And also perhaps, Borodin Prince Igor Overture or the Polovtsian Dances? Realy looking forward to another exciting year of QYO2!! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Everyone, and have a safe and wonderful break!!!!!

    Yes, the Berlioz ^^

  16. Brendan Toohey on December 22nd, 2008 4:11 pm

    Berlioz - Symphonie Fantastique! :)

  17. Amy on December 21st, 2008 10:30 am

I vote for West Side Story!!!

  18. Sergei Korschmin on December 20th, 2008 9:38 pm

    Hello Brendan -
I am glad that you have accepted the principal position and thank you for your suggestions. Have a good Christmas and I’ll see you next year in QYO and hopefully QWO.

  19. Brendan Toohey on December 20th, 2008 5:06 pm

    Hey Sergei!
Thats my repertoire suggestion list from camp 08! Haha, I’m glad to see they’re being considered, I do realize just how difficult these works are. I look forward to seeing you next year as principle clarinet in QYO2 as Melissa has moved up to QYS and hopefully for another concert season of the QWO?

Have a merry Christmas and a happy new year :)
    Brendan.
