QYO2 Informal Concert

Article date: 13/08/10 | Last edited: 21/09/10

Saturday, 23 October QYO2 will host its traditional “End of the Year Party”, and an “Informal Concert” or “Break-up Party Concert” (starting at 2:30pm and ending at 3:30pm). The program of this concert will include 20 to 30 minutes of orchestral work(s) and 30 to 40 minutes of solo accompaniment work(s). Usually, and this year is no different, the soloist(s) will be selected from QYO2’s current members. In this post I would like to explain the soloist(s)/work(s) selection process:

1. All current members of QYO2 can submit an expression of interest for the opportunity to perform a solo work with the orchestra.
a) member of any orchestral position and all instruments or combination of instruments are accepted; b) members can submit an original composition composed for the orchestra that can be conducted by the composer if preferred; c) this can also include any other work that the member(s) wishes to conduct.

2. Works duration needs to be approximately 10 to 15 minutes long with a maximum duration of 20 minutes, and it is preferred that any sheet music is from the QYO library (excluding any original composition of course). If the chosen work is not in the QYO library, the participant will need to source, supply and help prepare the sheet music, including the conductor’s score, and an appropriate number of orchestral parts. Overall, the selected participant(s) will assist the QYO2 Administration Team in the preparation and distribution of sheet music to the orchestra prior to the commencement of rehearsals.

3. Members submissions will be accepted only in comment format on this page below this post. Submissions closing day is 5 pm, Saturday, September 4.

4. Selection process will take place on Saturday, September 11, 1:30pm by a raffle-like draw. A maximum of 3 lucky members will be chosen. Good luck all!

    Hi Sergei, Antony, and Rollin

I would really love to play the 4 violin vivaldi concerto: can we discuss it tomorrow at orch?

I have been trying to track down many concertos to perform with QYO2 & havent been able to find any of them!

    Hi Sergei,

I’m interested in playing the Beethoven’s violin concerto (first movement most probably and without the cadenza it should only go for about 15 minutes)at the breakup concert
I havn’t checked if qyo has got the score or not but I’d be able to let you know before the 11th of sept

    thanks!

    Hey Sergei

I am interested in performing the first movement of Haydn cello concerto in c for the informal concert. The movement goes for about ten minutes.

The qyo library would have the parts as it was performed in the NYCC last year. I could double check to be sure.

    regards,
    Andrew Leask

    Hi again Sergei,
As we discussed, I’m changing my nomination to R-K.
Just thought I’d better put it on this page to make it official.
    Thanks!

    Hi Sergei,
I’m interested in playing the 2nd movement of the Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1, (~8 min) but I’m yet to confirm orchestra music. I do remember we did the Bruch at city hall with Nicholas Kaye-Smith a little while back though.

Also Rollin and I would like to (subject finding 2 other violinist) play the B minor Vivaldi 4 violin concerto; I do know the music part is at BGS because i’ve played it there so that should not be too much of an issue.

    Regards, Antony :)

    Hi Sergei,

I would love to play the 3rd movement from the Concerto for flute and orchestra by Anthony Ritchie. I haven’t checked the QYO library, but it’s a fairly recent piece so it probably isn’t in there. However, I do have all of the orchestra parts at home. They just need to be printed!

It’s a fantastic concerto, the movement is only about 7 minutes long - I know this isn’t in the 10-15min time frame, so I hope it will still be okay!

    Thanks,

    Brijette

    Hi Sergei,
I’m interested in conducting some of Mozart’s Symphony No. 36 (the Linz). Only one or two movements obviously, to fit in the time frame.

I can get the parts off IMSLP
However I don’t know how legal this is!!!!

Unfortunately QYO doesn’t own the music.
Let me know if I should look for another piece of music (that is legal for us to perform)!!
    Thankyou!
    Katie

    Hi Sergei,
Antony and I are interested in playing the Vivaldi Concerto for 4 violins in B minor. HOWEVER…we need two other violinists!!! and decent music…I think I remember Antony mentioning sometime that BGS has it in their library by which we could apparently get hold of. There is also an extremely old edition on IMSLP but I would hate to use that.
    Regards,
    Rollin

    Get back to you later.

    Hey Sergei,

I would like to conduct my own composition, ‘A Princess’ Tale’ which when finished will go for approximately 10-15min. I’ll comment again once the piece is completely finished or if it may be a bit hard to complete in time.

    Regards,
    Joshua

    Hi Sergai,

I am intrested in playing the 1st movt. or the concerto by Launy Grondahl. The movement only goes for 5 mins and the whole concerto 15mins max. I am checking around for the orchestral parts, however, I haven’t checked with QYO yet. i will comment again if i find them ^^

    Thanks
    -Danny-

    Hey Sergei,
Alex Miller and I are interested in performing Joseph Haydn’s Concerto for Two Horns in E-flat. I’m checking around for the orchestral parts, but haven’t checked with QYO yet.

    Hey Sergei,

I’m very interested in playing the Dragonetti Double Bass Concerto in G Minor, first movement. I’m not too sure if QYO has the music but I will try to find a copy of it! I wouldn’t require a large orchestra since it is a classical double bass concerto, and I think it goes for around 8 min, depending on how fast it is taken.

    Regards
    Kinga

  13. Julia Janiszewski on August 15th, 2010 6:09 pm

    Hi Sergei,

Ruthie Forrest and I are interested in performing the Vivaldi Double Cello Concerto in D Minor, first movement, and possibly the second, which runs to about 10 minutes combined.

I’m yet to check the QYO library, but I know that JSE performed it a few years ago, so the music might be there. I’ll double check, in anycase the music should be easy for me to obtain.

    Regards,
    -Julia

    Hey Sergei,

I’m very interested in the chance to perform the 3rd movement of Haydn’s cello concerto in C at the break up party concert. I think the movement goes for a maxium of 15 mins.

I’ll have to get back to you to see whether the QYO office have an orchestral part for it.

Secondly, Julia and I also want to place an entry in to perform the vivaldi cello duet in G minor.

The QYO office do have the scores for this piece.

    Regards,
    Ruthie

    Hi Sergei,

I am interested in performing the frst movement of the Haydn Trumpet Concerto at the break-up concert. I think this only goes for approximately 7 minutes but however could do the whole concerto perhaps if need more time which would be under 15 mins.

I will need to check with the Qyo library as to whether they have the parts or not, however will be able to check if I could have a copy of the parts sent from Bundaberg. :)

    Regards,
    Selena Rasmussen

    Hi Sergei,

I am very interested in playing the 3rd mov. of Tchaikovsky violin concerto in D at the break-up party concert. I think the movement should go for about 15 mins max.

I have double checked with the QYO office and they do have the orchestral parts in the QYO library, and they are happy to make photo copies for us if needed.

    Regards,
    Ariel
