About: Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” has become a showpiece for virtuoso pianists. This arrangement for Brass Sextet is intended likewise, to be a showpiece for virtuoso brass players. While using the original piano score as a guide to my arrangement for the Brass Sextet, I did allow myself to be conceptually influenced by Ravel’s splendid orchestration of the work, and it was intended right from the beginning to give my chamber group students a task that was not only challenging but also musically satisfying.
